Even if you’re a long-time customer of The Savings Bank, you may soon find us asking for certain information to verify your identity if you open a new account or make changes to an existing account.

That’s because of a new federal regulation that requires us
to obtain not only the traditional “new customer” information, but also additional documentation that verifies your identity – your driver’s license, for example.

This mandated “Customer Identification Program” is a part of the USA PATRIOT Act, which was signed into law by President Bush in October, 2001, following the events of September 11th of that year.
